''Tis the time of the year when I finally get to starting riding my bike! Time for me to start crossing some of the Crested butte trails off the bucket list. The downhill on Farris is epic! And the trees are already turning ..... which isn't epic for me. Really fun ride with the wifey @agirlandherblackdog #notreadyforwinter #reactiveadaptations #offroadhandcycle #hammerheadoffroadhandcycle ... See MoreSee Less
Looks like a fun trail. Days are getting shorter and cooler, has a fall feel to it!
A view from the "cockpit" on the Nuke off-road handcycle. This one is setup for a quad with @quadgrips and quad brakes, shifter centered at the cranks and e-assist via a Bionx d500 watt system. Steering is controls via the cranks AND the handlebars. Fully adjustable leg holders, seat back and seat pan. Rear wheel drive for supreme traction and a tight turning radius for the switchbacks! Can you picture yourself rallying some single track!? ... See MoreSee Less

Had a fantastic weekend at the Wydaho Rendezvous. Tons of awesome participants and great riding to be had. In fact one of the participants had never ridden a cycle of any kind ever in their life. "Just so you know.....
My accident was happen so long ago. I never thought being that close to nature was even an option. As I was riding these adaptive bike and being on these trails for the first time in my life. I felt as if I was a little baby learning how to explore for the very first time. It was unbelievable feeling. I had tears in my eyes. Knowing that no one had to push me up in my chair. I was close enough to touch a leaf sticking out to the branch. To a normal person it's not big deal but loosing the ability to walk since I was 2 and never getting a chance to be this close to nature was surreal moment I had. OMG ok I'm getting emotional as I'm typing this to you. THANK YOU So much for giving me that chance!!!!!!"
I love comments like this = motivation! ... See MoreSee Less
Well, it's time. Upgraded the old #offroadhandcycle (Hammerhead) with a 500w electric assist kit from BionX. Time to practice what I preach. I constantly hear others claim they love their e-assist kits we install on their hand cycles so it's time to take the plunge. Time to step up my mtn bIking game and start tackling the 10 mile + trails around Crested Butte that I've never gotten to see but only hear about through epic stories from friends. See you out there. #reactiveadaptations #adaptive #offroadhandcycling ... See MoreSee Less
What did the kit add in weight?
Probably around 20

Hope you dont mind, I shared your image on the bionx FB group. Nice setup
Can't wait to get mine!
And your wife wants you to ride big loops with her!
Like you told me...."you can ride longer and keep up with friends"
I look forward to hearing your review. I have been in your camp where you peddle it if you can and the e assist is for those who are challenged in that area but it would be nice to do much longer rides.
I rode my typical nasty jeep road tonight. I think my record to the top a couple years ago was 57 minutes when I was in good shape. Tonight it took me 33 minutes. Keep in mind, have not ridden basically at all so far this summer, had a crash, a mechanical( need to adjust derailleur) and the motor shit off twice ( still figuring out. ). Pretty sure if I had that all dialed in I'd make it sub 25.
It's not the speed I'm interested in, it's the mileage. I want to ride the trails that I'd ordinarily be too scared to get stranded on.
The torque is nice too. What level of assist were you riding in?
I ride with all 2 wheelies so for me it's about being able to keep up on the climbs. I'll challenge anyone on the downhills already.
Awesome set up. Do you think you could drive one handed,
I told him, he seemed interested
A little wilderness camping break for a couple days. Sheeesh, this was the easiest obstacle during our epic hike around the lake. Kept looking for Ewokes or dwarves but found none, just beautiful scenery and nasty trail. #lookingforwardtoretirement #reactiveadaptations #offroadhandcycling ... See MoreSee Less
Hmmm. Must be nice to have suspension.
maybe it's time for a winch.
One thing smaller wheels do well
Yeah I know, it's not an off road hand cycle. It's the dirt jumper I made my bride to be about a year ago. Found this picture taken by Trent Bona and thought I should repost. Good chance you'll see this and a vintage line of mtn bikes made by #reactiveadaptations soon. #dirtjumper #bmx #bmxdirt ... See MoreSee Less

Just when you're about to throw your welder out the window and call it quits, one of your customers posts a picture of themselves with their family members enjoying the outdoors because of what you've built. Well damn, back to work I guess. No excuses anymore, why aren't you out there exploring like Loren? #offroadhandcycling #offroadhandcycle #handcycle #noexcuses #reactiveadaptations #nukeoffroadhandcycle ... See MoreSee Less
Awesome. Been in that exact same place before. Keep up the great work
Get back to work Jake!!!
Nice one Jake!
That's a killer photo. Jake - don't go quitting until you build my bike man!
Pretty awesome picture. The work you do is bigger than the bikes you build.
Where can I get one?
Keep going Jake; you got this.
Finding the balance between work and play is a challenge Jake. Success sometimes must be defined in terms of personal happiness instead of productivity and profits. Sometimes a guy just needs to take a break. What you do is meaningful, changes lives and inspires others to open their minds and hearts to fresh possibilities. That is the real profit you create from your life's journey and current career. Just be sure to feed your own soul too, while your at it. Find that balance. Delegate more, take on less and share the load! Share the meaningful harvest as well as the work itself.

I rode into the woods early and the place was pretty empty but I rolled out of the trees just after noon to see people circling in the cars looking for parking spots.
I was on the AZT for 3.5 hours & saw nobody
Finally!! Started a batch of Wildcat off-road kids handcycles! Oregon adaptive and Teton Adaptive will be the first programs to get one thanks to a generous donation from the GoHawkeye Foundation! Soon some kids are going to be shreddin some mtn biking trails on a Wildcat! ... See MoreSee Less
Congrats Oregon Adaptive Sports!!
Alfred David Mires hurry on back, got more fun for ya. but enjoy CA.'
Finished up the all aluminum trike stand for Teton Adaptive. I've built a couple before but never really liked the design. I'm pretty stoked on this one though. About 8" of vertical adjustment, and plenty of length and width adjustments to fit just about any trike on the market. As it's built out of all aluminum it weights vertically nothing. Time to start maintaining your equipment!!! #recumbentbike #recumbent #recumbenttrike #offroadhandcycle #handcycle #reactiveadaptations ... See MoreSee Less
I think Nate Carey is going to be stoked!
Wow look how much work you get done when your wife is out of town! 😜
Pretty stoked on how the Wildcat kids off-road handcycle came out. It was more work then I thought it would be but I'll n the log run worth it. Now the littlest ripper can shred some mtn bike trails. Complete with SRAM I-3 internal hub, 20" maxxis tires, a huge amount of seat and crankset adjustment, the Wildcat should be able to accommodate almost any size child! # ... See MoreSee Less
We are just starting to look into a hand cycle for our 7 year old! Exciting news!

Thank you so much for making this for Emeri! I can't wait to get home and take her riding! It means so much to us Jake!
So awesome, keep on engineering Jake!
Emeri is so excited for her bike. Thank you Jake!
An awesome day! Got the 2nd gen Wildcat kids off-road handcycle finished up ( sort of, always making it better). Em had a great time testing it and after a couple more tweaks, it'll be ready for her to rally on the crested butte single track! #offroadhandcycle #offroadhandcycling #reactiveadaptations ... Dang, if I knew this was happening, I could've postponed my Moab trip a couple of weeks and brought my Nuke out. I was just there.

What a great day. First real test drive for the Voyager urban assault handcycle. Loving the tight wheelbase of only 48" that helps it turn tighter then most delta trikes out there. The 27.5 wheelset rolls smooth and with the big 2.4" Trail King the traction is much better then I expected! The 11 speed drivetrain coupled with the duel caliper hydraulic front brake make it complete. #voyagerhandcycle #handcycle #offroadhandcycle #offroadhandcycling #reactiveadaptations ...
